Montana Sapphires, Sourced Direct
Every stone carries a weight and a permanent Stone Passport along with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
How it Works
Joe Hand Picks Every Stone
Joe is our exclusive Gritologist. He hand-sorts Montana sapphire concentrate, primarily from Rock Creek and the Missouri River, and picks the stones worth keeping. One named person, doing careful work on every parcel that comes through.
We Document Everything
Every loose Montana sapphire gets a Stone Passport: weight, dimensions, color, cut, and heat treatment status. Unheated Montana sapphires are marked unheated. Heat treated stones say so. No ambiguity. Every stone was mined by Joe through years of hard work and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity validated by the state of Montana.
Our Promise To You
A completely unique Montana Sapphire experience. Each stone comes with a Certificate of Authenticity affirming it was found and approved by Joe himself along with a unique QR code to maintain it's historic provenance and value.
Recent Finds - New Montana Sapphires
The most recently listed loose Montana sapphires - across Joe-found stones and the curated Founders' Batch. Every stone mine direct, every stone documented.
Meet Joe - The Person Behind Every Stone
Joe is our exclusive Gritologist; we like to call him our Grit Kicker. He was a welder before he was a rockhound. He pulls primarily from Rock Creek, specifically Gem Mountain, and occasionally the Missouri River, the same deposit that produces some of the most sought-after American sapphires in the world. Every stone on this site came through his hands first.
Every Montana Sapphire Stone has a Passport
Six fields on every product page: Stone ID, weight, dimensions, color, cut, and treatment status. Unheated Montana sapphires are labeled unheated. Heat treated stones say so clearly. We tell you what we know about every ethically sourced Montana sapphire.
